Description
This three day trip from Quarzazate to M’Hamid and Erg Chegaga is complete with kasbahs, palm groves, a camel ride and overnights at a desert bivouacs. On the way back to Ouarzazate visit the Koranic Library and the manufacturing site of the local green pottery in Tamegroute.
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Tamegroute – M’Hamid
You will be picked up at your Ouarzazate accommodations in a 4 x 4 by your guide. Traveling to M’Hamid today via the Draa Valley, we will reach Zagora enjoying the scenery afforded by off road routes.
Continuing on, we stop in Tamegroute to visit its underground Kasbah, Koranic Library, and the site of the manufacturing of the local green pottery, before reaching M’Hamid, gateway to the Sahara. After lunch you will take a tour of the city with local guides and visit old kasbah and palm groves before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: M’Hamid – Sacred Oasis – Erg Chegaga Dunes
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for the desert to experience camel rides over the small dunes, before stopping for lunch under a Tamarisk tree. In the afternoon, we depart to traverse beautiful desert landscapes, including a short visit to a Sacred Oasis. Upon arrival in Chegaga, we will take in the spectacular sunset over the sand dunes, enjoy dinner and a campfire, finally spending spending the night in a desert camp, either under the stars or in tents.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Iriqui lake – Taznakht – Ouarzazate
Take in the sunrise over the dunes and enjoy breakfast before departing with 4×4 vehicles to Foum Zguid, via the old Paris-Dakar road that crosses Iriqui Lake. We will stop in the Berber village of Taznakht for lunch before we drive to Ait Benhadou, a UNESCO Heritage Site, also famous for Hollywood movie filming. The tour will be completed as you are dropped off at your Ouarzazate accommodations.
