Description
This three day trip from Marrakech will delight you with two nights in the desert, including one at the site of the largest dunes in Morocco, Erg Chegaga. This trip is complete with a camel ride, campfires under the stars, nights in desert tents and pick up and drop off at your Marrakech location. You will sight see along the route, taking in southern Morocco from you own personal SUV, watching the glorious changes in the landscape along the way.
Day 1: Marrakech – Tamdakhte – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Agdz – Zagora-M ‘Hamid
Early departure from your Marrakech accommodations by 4 x 4 with your private driver and guide. We will drive over the Atlas Mountains pass of Tizi-N-Tichka, continue on to the Kasbahs of Tamdakhte and Ait Ben Haddou in Ouarzazate. Afterwards we will depart to Zagora, stopping to sightsee in Agdz, enjoying the panoramic view over the valley of the Draa, continuing along the route of the valley until Tanskhirt. Almost to M’hamid, we will visit Tamegroute for a tour of the Koranic Library and also learn about manufacturing of the local pottery. On to the bivouac in M’hamid for dinner and relaxation by the fir for music and folklore. Spend the night in the tent or under the stars.
If a camel ride or sleeping in desert tents is not what you desire, please let us know. We can also drive you to the desert camp for dinner and merriment and then return you to M’Hamid for overnight in a beautiful hotel.
Day 2: M’Hamid – Sacred Oasis – Chegaga
After breakfast, enjoy a camel rise and then we depart via ×4 track to the splendor of the big dunes of Erg Chegaga, the largest dunes in Morocco. We will have lunch under the shade of palm trees or tamarisk, and then continue on to Chegaga. Once in Chegaga we will climb the dunes to view the sunset, enjoy dinner overnight in tents or under the stars after enjoying the campfire.
Day 3: Chegaga- Kasbah Tamnougalt-Marrakech
After breakfast we depart and return to M’hamid for tea and breakfast. We will return to Marrakech via Drâa Valley, stopping in Agdez to visit the Kasbah Tamnougalt. Our travels will continue through Ouarzazate, returning you to your Marrakech accommodations.
Please note that there are a variety of accommodations to be found in the desert including more luxury accommodations with ensuite bathrooms. Please inquire!
