This four day round trip from Marrakech allows for a little extra time to enjoy the journey and delights that can be found along the route from Marrakech to Chegaga. Complete with spectacular sunrises and sunsets in the desert, a camel rides, and campfires in the desert, this trip also includes visits to the Berber Village of N’Kob, the Todra and Dades Gorges and the Koranic Library, among other fascinating stops.
Day 1: Marrakech – Dades Gorge – Skoura – Todra and Tinghir Gorges
After breakfast, your personal guide and car will pick you up from your Marrakech accommodations, stopping first at the Dades Gorge to take in the beautiful lake, park and the kasbah of Skoura. We will travel to the west to reach the village of Bou-Thahrar where we will tour the kasbah of Ait Glaoui Youl in the Dades Valley. After lunch, we will travel through the hills of the High Atlas to the Todra Gorge. Here we will stay overnight at a hotel, enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner before settling in for the night.
Day 2: Tinghir – Tazarine – N’Kob – Zagora – M’Hamid
An early morning departure is desirable for us to travel the longest drive of journey, passing through Tazarine then N’Kob, a small Berber village. After lunch in Zagora, we will continue on to M’Hamid, stopping in Tamegroute to visit the Koranic Library and to learn about the manufacturing of pottery and the underground streets found there. We will proceed on the route through the palms of Ouled Brahim and arrive at the desert bivouac in M’Hamid to dine, enjoy a campfire and spend the night in tents or under the stars.
Day 3: M’Hamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, experience the freedom of riding a camel in the desert. Afterwards we will take the off road route to the glorious sandy dunes of Chegaga. Stopping for lunch under the shade of palm trees and tamarisk, we will arrive in the afternoon at our destination. We will arrive at the camp in time to watch the sunset, enjoy dinner and overnight in tents or under the stars.
Day 4: Chegaga – Marrakech
Enjoy breakfast at the camp before the journey back to Marrakech, traveling through M’Hamid we will stop to visit the old ksar, and then continue our journey on through the stunning Atlas Mountains, returning you to your Marrakech accommodations.
